Celebrate Summer’s End with Mango Matcha

As the long summer days slowly wind down, we also find ourselves saying goodbye to mango season. Here in the UAE, the heat still lingers, yet the end of the summer carries its own rhythm – bidding goodbye to the golden sweetness of mangoes until they return next season.

I made this mango matcha drink a little while ago, but realised now is the perfect moment to share it. It feels like a toast – to the last sips of summer, to the brightness of mangoes, and to the calm, happy start of the academic year.

A layered mango matcha latte is more than just a refreshing sip. The juicy sweetness of ripe mango blends beautifully with the earthy notes of matcha, creating a vibrant drink that feels celebratory, soothing, and seasonal all at once. What makes this drink irresistible is not just the taste, but the way it looks in the glass. The golden mango purée settles at the base like liquid sunshine, while the cool milk creates a soft middle layer. As the matcha cascades down, it weaves through the milk and mango, leaving a gorgeous marbling effect — streaks of green against creamy white and bright yellow.

So here’s to every child starting school with excitement, curiosity, and joy – may this year be filled with learning, laughter, and calm mornings. And here’s to one last glass of mango sunshine before we officially step into autumn. Cheers!

Preparation time: 10-12 minutes
Cooking time: NA
Serves: 2

Ingredients :

  • Ripe mango (peeled and cubed) 1
  • Matcha powder 1 tsp
  • Hot water (not boiling, about 80°C) 1/4 cup
  • Cold milk (dairy or plant-based) 1 cup
  • Honey or sugar (optional, adjust to taste) 2–3 tsp
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipped cream (lightly sweetened, for topping)

Method:

  1. Blend the ripe mango into a smooth purée. If it’s too thick, add a splash of water.
  2. Pour into the base of your serving glasses.
  3. In a small bowl, sift the matcha powder, then whisk it with hot water until frothy and smooth. Add ice cubes over the mango purée.
  4. Slowly pour cold milk on top to create a distinct second layer. Gently pour the whisked matcha over the milk layer.
  5. Pipe or spoon a cloud of whipped cream on top. Sprinkle a pinch of matcha powder or a few tiny mango cubes over the cream for contrast.
