Tiramisu always feels luxurious, even when the recipe itself is wonderfully simple. The combination of coffee, mascarpone, cocoa, and soft biscuit is already hard to resist, but this time I wanted to give it a slightly brighter, fresher twist.

So I made Orange Tiramisu Balls.
These little bites have everything I love about a classic tiramisuโthe deep coffee flavour, creamy mascarpone, and generous cocoa coatingโbut with fresh orange zest running through the mixture. That little citrus note lifts the richness beautifully and makes every bite feel a little more elegant.
They are incredibly easy to make, require no baking, and can be prepared ahead of time. Serve them chilled with a little whipped mascarpone on the side or piped on top, and suddenly this very simple dessert feels indulgent, sophisticated, and almost restaurant-worthy.

Orange Tiramisu Balls
Ingredients
- 200 g ladyfinger biscuits
- 200 g mascarpone cheese
- 2โ3 tbsp icing sugar, or to taste
- 2 tbsp strong espresso, cooled
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1โ2 tsp fresh orange juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for coating
For the Whipped Mascarpone
- 150 g mascarpone
- 100 ml whipping cream
- 1โ2 tbsp icing sugar
- A little orange zest, optional
Method
- Break the ladyfinger biscuits into pieces and blitz them in a food processor until you have fine crumbs. Add the mascarpone, icing sugar, cooled espresso, orange zest, orange juice and vanilla.
- Pulse again until the mixture comes together into a soft dough-like consistency. Taste the mixture at this stage.
- Add a little more orange zest if you want the citrus flavour to be more pronounced, or another splash of espresso if you prefer a stronger coffee note. Transfer the mixture to the refrigerator for around 20โ30 minutes.
- Chilling makes it much easier to shape. Once firm, take small portions and roll them gently between your palms to create neat bite-sized balls.
- Place the cocoa powder in a shallow bowl and roll each tiramisu ball generously in the cocoa until completely coated.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve. For the whipped mascarpone, add the mascarpone, whipping cream, and icing sugar to a bowl.
- Whip until smooth, light, and just firm enough to hold its shape. Avoid over-whipping.
- Serve the tiramisu balls chilled with a swirl of whipped mascarpone and a tiny scattering of fresh orange zest.
A Little Styling Tip
These look especially beautiful when kept minimal. A deep cocoa coating against pale mascarpone cream already creates a lovely contrast. Add only a fine curl of orange zest or a tiny piece of candied orange for colour.

For a more luxurious plated dessert, arrange three tiramisu balls, pipe mascarpone between them and finish with a light dusting of cocoa. The orange should feel like a little surprise, not overpower the classic tiramisu flavours.
Make Ahead
These are perfect for entertaining because you can prepare the balls a day in advance and keep them refrigerated in an airtight container. I prefer coating them in cocoa shortly before serving so the outside remains beautifully velvety.
They are rich, creamy, and deeply chocolatey from the cocoa, with the bitterness of coffee balancing the sweetness. And then comes that little burst of orangeโfresh, fragrant, and just enough to make this familiar dessert feel new again.
Simple to make, beautiful to serve, and definitely the kind of small indulgence that disappears very quickly.
