There’s something magical about biting into a hot, juicy dumpling on a chilly evening. I am always looking for different ways of enjoying dumpling and adding this peanut butter sauce became a game-changer. And if you are like me you will love dumplings in creamy peanut butter sauce topped with chilli oil. Creamy, nutty, and slightly sweet, this sauce added a whole new dimension to the humble dumpling. Paired with a drizzle of fiery chili oil, it created a medley of flavors that danced on the palate. The sauce’s salty, sweet, and spicy notes intertwined beautifully, creating a complex and deeply satisfying flavor profile. At the same time, the dumplings’ delicate wrappers and savory stuffing provided the ideal base for this indulgent combination.
My journey with dumplings began in the streets of my hometown in Assam and continued in Kolkata. About a decade ago, dumplings—or momos as they are fondly called in this part of the world—were a culinary revelation for a student with limited pocket money. You could savor a plate of steaming dumplings from small, makeshift kitchens that lined the streets for just ten-twenty rupees. These stalls, often a modest setup of a steaming pot and a few stools, became the go-to spot for a quick, hearty meal. The aroma of freshly steamed momos wafting through the air was an irresistible invitation, especially on brisk winter evenings.
Even today, whenever I see a steaming plate of dumplings, I’m transported back to those days. So, whether it’s from a humble street-side stall or a fancy restaurant, dumplings will always hold a special place in my heart.
